We spent a few days in California last week for B&H's wedding in Berkeley. I do like it in the Bay area, the weather, and the chill atmosphere.
This is a picture at a BBQ the first day a I arrived (yes, that's me!) I decided my family might like to see me in a picture instead of just reporting out on food. Our hosts literally just got the grill built before everyone arrived. Actually, K&M (more K, M's wife) was still working on it. But they got it done!
A nice view from their deck at sunset. They can actually see all 5 bridges around San Francisco:
And then to the wedding, where we were at the Lake Tahoe table:
And they had cupcakes! .
These were salted with some caramel...delicious! How happy were we? Ok, we had four.
Food, food and more street food. The roving food trucks are all the rage in New York, from cupcakes to korean tacos. And everything in between. This weekend I spent a day at the new Eventi hotel for Carts in the Parc, where the local food trucks gathered in one spot for the NY Wine & Food Festival. Let me tell you, this event make the tasting much much easier. The trucks were stationary and centrally located!
And with a group of 4, you can taste quite a bit...
Schnitzel and lamb (2 ways) care of Schnitzel and Things, NYC Cravings and the Bistro Truck. On the right is the Korean Taco from Krave in Jersey City. I didn't get a picture of the Biryani, but it was great (and the food winner).
Such a pretty cupcake! From Sweet Street Desserts:One of our foursome, with the host Andrew Zimmerman (of Bizarre Foods on Food Network):Gail Simmons...honestly, she looked so much tinier in real life. Which then prompts the question "what would I look like on TV then?" While not a favorite of everyone in my house, I like Gail. The dessert winner. This is the Salty Pimp from the Big Gay Ice Cream Truck. Dulce de Leche squirted in the ice cream, a little sprinkle of salt, and then chocolate dipped. And that's the big gay owner in the truck. Had to have at least one picture of a truck!A fun day and beautiful weather. We were even interviewed for Country Living online so will have to look for that clip!
I saw my sister last weekend and she said that all my posts are about food. I suppose it's true. We do a lot of walking and exploring, And may times our travels are driven by a new restaurant or something I've read about. I read too many food blogs. And I like pictures of food!
In her honor, I'm posting her Save the Date. Yes, my little sister is getting married!
So this is exactly how I remember her, with the little bob haircut. Wasn't she a cutie back in 1985? I also thought this was so appropriate because Amy and my future brother-in-law are both very involved with children's education.
She's also provided us the opportunity to gather in Little Palm Island for her wedding. Will definitely report back on the event.
